PRESS RELEASE 31.5.2010
Vehicle inspection strike began 1.6.2010 at 7.00
Pardia urges a boycott on A-Katsastus group’s services during the strike The Federation of Salaried Employees Pardia’s board of directors recommends to its members that the services of the A-Katsastus group be boycotted until further notice. The strike began on 1 June 2010.
- We hope that members of other unions and all Finnish people join us in the boycott of the A-Katsastus group (A-Katsastus Oy, Ajovarma Oy and Yksityiset K-asemat Oy) and refrain from using their services during the strike. The boycott will be lifted when negotiations reach a solution acceptable to both parties, says Antti Palola, the President of the Federation of Salaried Employees Pardia.
Since the middle of the 1990’s, there have been company-specific collective agreements in the A-Katsastus group. In addition to the employer, contract parties have included Pardia member organisations Autokatsastajat AK ry, Suomen Autokatsastusten Henkilöstöyhdistys SAHY ry, Moottoriajoneuvojen Katsastusmiehet ry and the Akava member organisation Katsastusinsinöörit KATSI ry.
Following the expiry of the previous agreement on 30 April, the employer has unilaterally declared that it applies the Finnish Central Organisation for Motor Trades and Repairs AKL’s vehicle trade’s collective agreement for salaried employees either directly or after a short transitional phase.
- This is not something the organisations can agree with. The organisations want as the largest organisations in the vehicle inspection field to maintain the negotiation and interpretation rights regarding the central collective agreements relating to them. The vehicle trade’s agreement would mean essential weakening in the terms and conditions of employment.
The personnel associations of the A-Katsastus group submitted on 3 May a first strike warning to the National Conciliator. As the negotiations for a collective agreement did not progress, the Pardia member organisations notified of bringing forward and expanding the industrial action so that the strike was to begin on 1 June 2010 at 7 am. The strike applies to all salaried employees in vehicle inspection and driving examination working in A-Katsastus Oy, Ajovarma Oy and Yksityiset K-asemat Oy. Negotiations were conducted intensively but they were interrupted on Saturday having reached no conclusion.
The Pardia member associations in A-Katsastus group have some 1200 members. The total number of Pardia members is nearly 60 000, the majority of whom work at government agencies and research institutions and a significant number at enterprises, companies and universities. Pardia is one the largest member organisations of the Finnish Confederation of Professionals STTK.

This is what it is about: We boycott the following A-Katsastus group’s services during the strike
A-Katsastus Oy and Yksityiset K-asemat Oy’s vehicle inspection sites perform regularly performed inspections of vehicles and special inspections such as registration and alteration inspections. It is also possible to register a vehicle and take out motor insurance at the inspection sites. Ajovarma Oy is the only body in Finland to receive driver inspections, the so-called driver tests. Most Ajovarma sites are located in connection with A-Katsastus vehicle inspection sites.
